Solar panels won’t save hospitals in the winter, says an expert

The installation of solar panels at critical infrastructure facilities—particularly hospitals—which is being presented as preparation for winter, is more a matter of formal reporting than a real solution to the problem of energy supply during the cold season. This was stated by Yuriy Korolchuk, co-founder of the Institute for Energy Strategies, in an interview with the "Komersant Ukrainian" YouTube channel
The expert drew attention to the widespread practice of installing solar power plants at facilities that most need a stable energy supply precisely in winter, when solar energy is critically scarce.
“Today, inverters, batteries, and solar panels are being promoted. And all of this is often presented as essential, even though it isn’t always necessary. They report: ‘Hooray, some hospital has installed solar panels and is ready for winter.’ How are they ready for winter? They won’t even work in winter. Why mislead not only their patients but also the public?” Korolchuk stated.
The expert emphasized that the main problem lies in the lack of sufficient sunlight during the winter, which renders such investments ineffective precisely when the energy supply is most critical.
“There won’t be enough sunlight for those panels to work,” he stressed.
