Ukrainian Armed Forces Drone Attack: Russia’s “Progress” Rocket and Space Center Was Hit

The Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a missile strike on an industrial facility in the Samara Region, the region’s governor, Vyacheslav Fedoryshchev, reported on Saturday, August 15. According to him, the Samara region came under a massive missile attack, and Samara’s industrial infrastructure sustained localized damage. The official added that an emergency response headquarters has been established and medical assistance has been provided to the victims, [Komersant] reports, citing DW.
According to Ukrainian sources, the “Progress” Rocket and Space Center—a major enterprise in the Russian rocket and space industry—may have been targeted. It manufactures medium-class launch vehicles and unmanned spacecraft. Near “Progress” is the “Aviakor” plant, which repairs and modernizes Russian aircraft. OSINT analysis confirmed that a workshop belonging to the rocket and space center is on fire in Samara.
Attack on the Moscow Region
Andrei Vorobyov, governor of the Moscow Region, reported that eight UAVs were shot down and neutralized over the region overnight—in Domodedovo, Odintsovo, Ramenskoye, Chekhov, Shatura, and Voskresensk. In Shatura, a 55-year-old woman and a 9-year-old child were injured when a UAV struck a private home; the child is in critical condition.
According to the official, efforts to repel the attack are ongoing. Drones are being detected over the Mozhaisk and Naro-Fominsk districts. All emergency services are operating on high alert.
Strikes on Other Regions of Russia and Crimea
On the night of August 15, strikes also targeted other regions of Russia, including the Penza, Yaroslavl, and Rostov regions, as well as Russian-annexed Crimea. Oleg Omelchenko, governor of the Penza region, reported that an agricultural enterprise in the industrial zone of the Zemetchinsky district was targeted by a drone. A localized fire broke out, which, according to him, was quickly extinguished. There were no casualties or injuries.
Mykhailo Yevraev, head of the Yaroslavl region, wrote on Telegram that air defense forces neutralized five drones; there were no casualties or injuries. He also emphasized that no facilities in the region were hit. Yuriy Slyusar, Governor of the Rostov Oblast, reported that during the night, while repelling an air attack on the region, about a dozen UAVs and missiles were destroyed in three districts: Chortkiv, Millerovo, and Verkhnodon.
In the Millerivskyi District, between the villages of Khmizov and Zakosnov, power lines were damaged, leaving about a thousand residents of seven villages without electricity. No reports of casualties have been received. Mikhail Razvozzhaev, the so-called “governor” of annexed Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozzhayev, wrote that five UAVs were shot down in the Pivnichna Strona, Balaklava, and Gagarin districts, and that the military continues to repel the drone attack.
