Ukrainian Armed Forces drones attacked oil depots, a military arsenal, and a torpedo manufacturer in Russia

6 June 12:14

A few hours after Vladimir Putin’s statement at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum regarding the need to strengthen Russia’s air defense, Ukrainian drones struck a number of targets in St. Petersburg and other regions. On the night of June 5, drones attacked the Research Institute of Marine Thermal Engineering in Lomonosov—a key developer of naval underwater weapons, including torpedoes. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Russian propaganda media.

St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov asked residents not to leave their homes and announced that mobile internet had been blocked due to massive attacks. According to Downdetector data, communication in the city was cut off around 3:40 a.m.

In Peterhof, drones attacked a local oil depot (which has 11 tanks with a total capacity of 8,000 cubic meters). Kronstadt, home to one of Russia’s key naval bases in the Baltic Sea, was also targeted again. According to Astra’s analysis, the Kronstadt Naval Cadet Military Corps may have been attacked. Afterward, authorities blocked off the street adjacent to the school.

Over the Leningrad Oblast, 141 Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight, reported regional governor Alexander Drozdov. He also confirmed “falling debris” in the Luzhsky, Volosovsky, and Lomonosovsky districts. An operational headquarters was established in the latter. Ukrainian media outlets are reporting on a fire and explosions at military unit 81263—the 7082nd Technical Mine and Torpedo Weapons Base of the Navy.

In addition, the “Poltavska” oil depot in Ust-Labinsk, Krasnodar Krai, was hit; a large fire broke out at the facility, according to Ukrainian monitoring channels and local authorities. The fire covered 5,000 square meters; as of now, no one has been injured. The oil depot has 28 storage tanks with a total capacity of nearly 15,000 cubic meters, which hold AI-92 and AI-95 gasoline, as well as diesel fuel.

The regional emergency response headquarters reported that 60 residents of nearby homes were evacuated “to a safe distance.”

“Windows in the houses were damaged. A total of 167 people and 54 pieces of equipment, including units from Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, are involved in extinguishing the fire,” the authorities stated.

Overnight, air defense forces intercepted 376 Ukrainian aircraft-type UAVs in the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk, Leningrad, Novgorod, Oryol, Pskov, Rostov, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tver, and Tula regions, as well as in the Moscow region, Crimea, Abkhazia, and over the waters of the Azov and Black Seas, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported.

The day before, speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin stated that due to the strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Russia “must strengthen its air defense system and do everything possible to secure the territory of the Russian Federation.”
