Ukrainian Armed Forces drones have again attacked the maritime terminal in Tuapse: what are the consequences?

1 May 09:37

A fire broke out in Tuapse following an attack by Ukrainian drones on the territory of the maritime terminal, the Krasnodar Krai Operational Headquarters reported on Telegram late Thursday night, May 1. It is noted that there were no casualties, according to "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Russian propaganda media.

Emergency services are on the scene.

“A total of 128 people and 41 pieces of equipment, including from Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, have been deployed to extinguish the fire,” the statement said.

This is the fourth drone attack on the seaport in the past two weeks.

Neither Krasnodar Krai Governor Veniamin Kondratyev nor Tuapse Municipal District Head Sergey Boyko had commented on this attack at the time of publication. On the evening of April 30, Boyko warned only of the danger posed by drones.

Ukraine’s attacks on oil infrastructure in Tuapse

Tuapse is home to an offshore oil terminal and an oil refinery. The oil terminal forms a single industrial complex with the Tuapse oil refinery.

On the night of April 28, Ukrainian drones attacked the city’s oil infrastructure for the third time. A column of smoke rose above the city, and burning oil spilled directly onto the street from one of the tanks. The Telegram channel Astra, based on its own OSINT analysis and reports from local residents, suggested at the time that the tank farm of the Tuapse Oil Refinery, located next to the ELOU-AVT-12 facility, had been attacked.

Prior to this, Ukrainian UAVs had struck oil facilities in Tuapse twice—on the night of April 16 and the night of April 20. On April 22, oil combustion byproducts fell on the city along with the rain. Residents of several neighborhoods were advised to limit their time outdoors and keep their windows closed.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin commented on the situation in Tuapse only after the third attack, acknowledging the potential environmental risks but adding—according to the regional governor—that “there are no serious threats.” At the same time, observers are warning of the threat of an environmental disaster.
