For the second day in a row: Ukraine has again launched drone attacks on Moscow

19 June 17:19

Ukrainian drones have been striking Moscow and the Moscow Region for the second day in a row. On Friday, June 19, according to reports from Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, between 12:11 p.m. and 2:13 p.m., air defense forces “destroyed” 37 drones flying toward Moscow. No information has yet been received regarding casualties or damage resulting from today’s attack. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Russian propaganda media.

The day before, on Thursday, June 18, the largest airstrike on the capital since the start of the war took place: according to Sobyanin, about 200 drones were shot down as they approached Moscow. The main strike targeted the Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya. In Kotelniki, a 25-story residential building and the “Bila Dacha” shopping center were damaged, and the “Sadovnik” shopping center was also affected.

Columns of black smoke rose over the Russian capital, and an “oil rain” fell in the Moscow region—residents of Lyubertsy and Zheleznodorozhny complained of the smell of burning and oily stains on their cars and windowsills. According to Shot, 527 flights were delayed or canceled at airports in the Moscow air hub.

In the Moscow region, as reported by Governor Andrei Vorobyov, 17 people were injured. Residents of Moscow and the Moscow region, in turn, complained en masse about the lack of warnings from the authorities—air raid sirens did not sound, and they were not provided with information about bomb shelters.

Putin’s press secretary assured that “air defense performance” remains high “despite everything.”

According to the Telegram channel “You Were Listening,” which publishes transcripts of Dmitry Peskov’s conversations with journalists, a correspondent for the American television network CNN asked the press secretary about the attack on Moscow.

According to Peskov, the air defense forces defending Moscow and the surrounding region demonstrated “good results” during the attack by Ukrainian drones on the night of June 18.

“Indeed, drone attacks are continuing. Appropriate measures are being taken to address the consequences. The air defense systems are performing well, despite everything,” said the Kremlin spokesperson.

OSINT analysts: Russian air defense caused the explosion at the Kapotna oil refinery

A missile from a Russian air defense system struck a tank
at the Kapotna oil refinery, triggering an explosion and fire at the facility, reported Astra, citing its own OSINT analysis.

Footage from one angle shows that the tank lid was blown off and flew to the side immediately after the air defense missile struck the oil storage facility. This is evidenced, in particular, by a characteristic inversion trail: it allows one to determine the missile’s flight path, Astra explains. The launch was likely carried out by the “Pantsir” air defense system (ZRPK)—a version also supported by the Z-Channel “Military Informant.”

Footage showing the torn-off tank lid became one of the most discussed topics following the nighttime attack on Moscow. According to Russian authorities, the raid was the largest attack by Ukrainian drones on the Russian capital in the past two years.
