Inflation in Ukraine has accelerated to 8.6%: what saw the biggest price increases in April

Price growth has accelerated again in Ukraine. In April 2026, consumer prices rose by 1.4% compared to March, and annual inflation reached 8.6%. The most noticeable price increases for Ukrainians were in food, fuel, and transportation services. This is according to data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian"
According to the State Statistics Service, core inflation in April 2026 compared to March was 0.9%. Compared to April 2025, core inflation reached 7.6%.
How food prices have changed
In the consumer market in April, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 1.9%.
Processed grain products saw the sharpest price increase—a jump of 16.7%. Prices also rose for a number of staple foods that Ukrainians buy every day.
Specifically, the following items became 3.6–1.5% more expensive:
- sugar;
- sunflower oil;
- bread;
- pasta;
- fish and fish products;
- meat and meat products;
- fruit;
- vegetables;
- rice.
At the same time, some products became cheaper in April. Egg prices fell the most—by 3.4%. Butter, cheese, and lard also became 1.5–0.5% cheaper.

Alcohol and tobacco also became more expensive
Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products rose by 1.2% in April.
The main reason for this was the rise in prices for tobacco products.
According to statistics, cigarettes and other tobacco products rose in price by 1.8%.

Transportation became one of the main drivers of inflation
Prices in the transportation sector also rose significantly. In April, transportation services and related expenses rose by 4.7%.
The main reason was a sharp rise in fuel and lubricant prices. They rose by 7.9%.
The cost of passenger transportation also increased:
- passenger road transport fares—by 6.5%;
- rail passenger fares — by 4.4%.

On an annual basis, transportation costs rose even more significantly—by 19.1%. At the same time, fuel prices rose by 36.1% over the year.
