Iran reported a U.S. missile strike on a nuclear power plant under construction

Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization stated that the U.S. attacked the “Darkhovain” nuclear power plant, currently under construction in Khuzestan Province in the southwestern part of the Islamic Republic. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing DW.
The U.S. carried out an “aggressive and barbaric” attack on the facility at approximately 3:39 a.m. local time (4:09 a.m. Moscow time) on July 19, according to Tehran. According to the Iranian side, several missile strikes were carried out.
The AEOI appeals to the IAEA
The attack took place several months after IAEA Director General Mohammad Eslami sent an official protest to Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The letter was sent following Tehran’s claims that Israel and the U.S. had struck an Iranian nuclear facility in Natanz on March 1.

Tehran believes that repeated attacks on such facilities under international safeguards could jeopardize the safety of reactors and lead to the release of radioactive materials, with potentially catastrophic consequences for the region. Eslami called on the IAEA to unequivocally condemn the attacks as violations of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, the agency’s statute, and other international legal obligations.
U.S. Airstrikes Against the IRGC
On July 19, the U.S. military carried out airstrikes against forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that had attacked U.S. service members in Jordan on July 17, the U.S. Central Command (Centcom) announced. Two U.S. service members were killed as a result of the Iranian attack in Jordan.
These two Americans were the first U.S. service members killed since the start of the recent escalation in the U.S. war against Iran. The total number of U.S. service members killed since the start of Israeli-American strikes against Iran in late February has risen to 16.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump stated on July 19 that Republicans should include restrictions against Iran in the bill on sanctions against Russia.
Strikes on U.S. Bases in Kuwait
The Iranian military, according to state radio, stated that in response to the latest U.S. strikes, American military bases in Kuwait were attacked by drones. According to Tehran, the Iranian armed forces attacked a U.S. Army ammunition depot at the Udayri desert camp and radar systems at Ali al-Salem Air Base. Iran had previously carried out strikes against targets in Kuwait.
On July 17, following another wave of strikes against his country, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei threatened the U.S. with “unforgettable lessons.” The U.S. violation of the framework agreement with Tehran “has once again shown everyone” that President Donald Trump’s signature “is worthless,” the Ayatollah’s statement emphasized. A few days ago, Trump threatened to expand the strikes if negotiations with Tehran on a complete end to the war failed.
In mid-June, the U.S. and Iran signed a framework agreement with the goal of concluding a peace treaty within 60 days. Despite the latest escalation, mediation efforts continue, but a breakthrough is not yet in sight. The war began on February 28 with strikes by Israel and the U.S. against Iran. Tehran responded with attacks on Israel and U.S. targets, as well as on several Gulf countries. A fragile ceasefire has been in place since early April.
