Russia has been targeting Ukraine’s gas production for the third day in a row: Naftogaz reports losses
21 July 11:55
Russian occupation forces have been striking Ukraine’s gas production infrastructure for the third consecutive day. Production facilities belonging to the Naftogaz Group in the Kharkiv region have come under fire. Due to the attacks, the companies were forced to shut down some of their equipment, resulting in a reduction in natural gas production volumes.
This was reported by the press service of Naftogaz of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
The company reported that on July 19, one of its gas production assets was struck by a Russian attack.
As a result of the attack:
- a large-scale fire broke out;
- State Emergency Service rescuers quickly extinguished the fire;
- the production equipment had to be shut down as an emergency measure;
- the company lost a portion of its current natural gas production volumes.
The very next day, July 20, Russian troops struck yet another production facility.
Experts are currently assessing the extent of the damage, but Naftogaz has already reported extensive destruction of infrastructure.
Were there any casualties?
The company noted that none of its employees were injured during the latest attacks.
At the same time, equipment sustained serious damage, and some production processes had to be temporarily suspended.
This is not the first attack on Naftogaz in July
The latest attack is the latest in a series of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
As reported by Naftogaz, on July 17, Russia carried out a massive attack on the company’s production assets.
At that time, industrial facilities in the following locations were targeted:
- Kharkiv Oblast;
- Poltava Oblast;
- Sumy Oblast.
Earlier, on July 6, Russian troops attacked a Naftogaz Group gas production facility in the Kharkiv region. One employee was injured as a result of that strike.

Why Attacks on Gas Production Are Critical
Gas production facilities account for a significant portion of domestic natural gas production, which is used for:
- heating during the winter;
- supplying the population with natural gas;
- operating thermal power plants;
- operating critical infrastructure;
- maintaining the country’s energy security.
Damage to such facilities could lead to a temporary reduction in production and require lengthy restoration work.
