A great loss for Ukrainian culture: Actor Yevgen Bushmakin was killed in the war

Ukrainian actor and soldier Yevgen Bushmakin has died—he appeared in the films *Everything Will Be Fine* and *Hero of My Time*, for which he was nominated for the “Golden Dzyga” film award. Director Tonya Noyabrova announced his death, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to her, Bushmakin died while on duty. She did not provide details regarding the circumstances of his death. The actor was 45 years old.
In her post, Noyabryova called Bushmakin “an outstanding actor, teacher, and friend” and noted that all of her professional achievements are linked to the creative journey they began together while still studying at the institute.
“He didn’t know how to fight. He loved people and really wanted to see his son,” the director wrote in her Instagram Stories.
Noyabryova also said that Yevgeny Bushmakin was mobilized near his home, after which he served in an assault brigade.
Casting director Alla Samoilenko also reported the actor’s death: “Yevgeny Bushmakin has died. I simply can’t find the words.”
Writer Andriy Kokotyukha also paid tribute to the actor: “Actor Yevgeny Bushmakin was killed in the war. I didn’t know him well. But in a brief conversation, he said he wanted to wait for his role and asked me to write one for him. I didn’t have time…”
“The heroes of our time are also Ukrainian artists who become soldiers. And they are dying. Again, and again, and again. You know yourselves how, during various events, film festivals, and the like, the moments of silence in which we remember all our fallen colleagues have become simply endless. May Yevgen’s memory live on…”—wrote director and writer Iryna Tsilik.
Yevgen Bushmakin was born on May 28, 1981, in Poltava. In 2005, he graduated from the directing department of the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts with a degree in “director and instructor.”
In film, Bushmakin played the lead role in Noyabrova’s debut short film *Independence Day* (2012), and also played the lead character in the director’s feature-length debut, *Hero of My Time* (2018). For his role as Zhorik, he was nominated for a “Golden Dzyga” film award in the “Best Actor” category. He also appeared in the film “Everything Will Be Fine.”
