Ukrainian athletes have met with the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo: she presented them with the city’s award – the Vermeille gold medal. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.

In a speech, the head of Paris supported the Ukrainian athletes and recalled her visit to Ukraine. She noted how difficult it was for the Ukrainian team to get to Paris, as she saw the conditions in which the athletes were forced to train because of Russia’s aggression. She once again noted that “representatives of Russia and Belarus have no place at these Olympic Games.”

“As a sign of friendship and support, the mayor of Paris presented the Ukrainian team with the gold medal “Vermei” (Grand Vermei) of the city of Paris. This is the highest honour of the city, which is awarded to those who have done something incredible for the city (“acte remarquable”),” reads the message.

The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to France Vadym Omelchenko, Acting Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Matvei Bedny, two-time Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics Liliya Podkopayeva and chief of mission Lyudmyla Panchenko.
