The Metro Will Not Run Additional Trains at Stations During Alarms: Reason Cited

The Kyiv Metro cannot station additional rolling stock on station tracks to accommodate passengers temporarily during air raid alerts. This would make it impossible to carry out mandatory maintenance and repair work during the nighttime maintenance window. The Kyiv Metro municipal enterprise reported this in response to an official inquiry "Komersant Ukrainian".

As the company explained, after the metro ceases operations, trains undergo necessary technical and maintenance procedures. Station tracks and other infrastructure facilities are used to perform this work, so placing additional trains with passengers there during air raid alerts would interfere with scheduled maintenance. In addition, rolling stock that is out of service must undergo a technical inspection before resuming operation. Metro officials noted that there must be no passengers in the train cars during such inspections.

Consequently, using additional trains to temporarily accommodate people at stations during air raid alerts would require changes to operational procedures and would prevent the full completion of necessary routine maintenance and repair work.

The Kyiv Metro municipal enterprise emphasized that maintenance and repairs of the rolling stock are essential to ensure its proper technical condition and the safety of future passenger service.
