Last year’s cabbage is getting more expensive in Ukraine: why prices are rising

9 May 22:12

Prices for last year’s white cabbage have begun to rise in Ukraine this week, according to analysts from the EastFruit project, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

The upward price trend is driven by a sharp decline in the supply of vegetables from the 2025 harvest due to seasonal factors. At the same time, demand in this segment remains quite high, allowing farmers to raise their selling prices.

Currently, Ukrainian producers are offering last year’s white cabbage at prices of 8–15 UAH/kg ($0.18–0.34/kg), which is on average 75% more expensive than a week earlier.

Market participants attribute the current price increase in the segment of last year’s cabbage to a product shortage, as most Ukrainian farms have already completed the sales season. The remaining farmers are offering only residual batches of white cabbage from the 2025 harvest for sale.

At the same time, despite rising prices, white cabbage in Ukraine is currently 77% cheaper on average than it was in early May of last year. However, many market participants do not rule out that the upward price trend will continue, as the supply of the product continues to decline rapidly.
