The new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Drapatiy, addressed the Ukrainian people following his appointment

Major General Mykhailo Drapatiy, whom Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed as the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has commented on his appointment for the first time. The announcement was posted on Facebook, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

He thanked the president for his trust, expressed gratitude to Oleksandr Syrskyi, and promised to work responsibly and with respect for the Ukrainian military.

Drapatiy Responds to His Appointment as Commander-in-Chief for the First Time

Following President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s announcement of the upcoming leadership change in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykhailo Drapatiy addressed Ukrainians with a brief message.

“I thank the President of Ukraine for his trust, the Minister of Defense for his support, and the Armed Forces for this new stage of service,” wrote the major general.

According to him, serving Ukraine has always been an honor for him, and during a full-scale war, it entails absolute responsibility.

Drapatiy thanked Syrskyi

In his address, the newly appointed Commander-in-Chief specifically addressed Oleksandr Syrskyi.

“I am grateful to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, for his consistent work to strengthen the Ukrainian military. I grew up in it,” Drapatiy noted.

He also emphasized that in his new position, he will work responsibly, with focus, and with respect for the servicemen and women who are defending Ukraine today.

What Zelenskyy Had Previously Announced

On the evening of July 21, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he had decided to change the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the head of state, Mykhailo Drapatiy will become the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and will lead the restructured military command system.

The president also announced that, together with Drapatiy, Acting Minister of Defense Yevhen Khmara, and Deputy Head of the Office of the President Pavlo Palisa, the future structure of the General Staff has already been determined.

At the same time, Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to Oleksandr Syrskyi for his contribution to the defense of Ukraine, particularly for the defense of Kyiv, the Kharkiv offensive operation, and other important military campaigns.

When the decision will take effect

The president stated that all personnel decisions regarding the military leadership will be formalized in the near future through relevant decrees.
