An ammonia leak occurred in Dnipro following a Russian strike: The State Emergency Service reported whether there is a threat to people

In Dnipro, following a Russian drone attack on the morning of July 27, an ammonia pipeline at one of the local facilities was damaged. Due to the accident, a strong smell of ammonia was detected in various parts of the city, and one person was taken to the hospital with symptoms of poisoning.
Emergency responders reported that the leak has already been contained and there is currently no threat to the public. This information was provided by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
What Happened in Dnipro After the Russian Attack
According to rescue workers, Russian troops attacked one of Dnipro’s industrial facilities with strike drones this morning.
The strike damaged a pipeline used to transport ammonia.
State Emergency Service specialists quickly arrived at the scene, shut off all tank valves, and stopped the leak of the hazardous substance.
“All tank valves have been shut off, and the ammonia leak has been stopped,” the State Emergency Service reported.
Is there a threat to Dnipro residents?
After the accident was contained, rescue workers stated that there is currently no threat to the public.
Specialists continue to monitor ammonia concentrations in the air around the clock.
The State Emergency Service urged citizens to rely only on official information and not to spread unverified reports regarding possible chemical contamination.
One person suffered ammonia poisoning
Dnipro Mayor Boris Filatov confirmed that one person was affected by the ammonia leak.
According to him, the victim went to the city hospital with symptoms of poisoning.
“An ammonia pipeline was damaged as a result of an attack on one of the facilities. Emergency responders have addressed the consequences of the accident. The leak has been stopped. One person sought treatment at the city hospital for poisoning,” the mayor of Dnipro reported on Telegram.
Why was there a strong odor in the city?
After the morning attack, residents of various districts of Dnipro reported a strong smell of ammonia.
It was the damage to the pipeline that caused the characteristic odor in the air.
After the pipeline was shut off and the accident was contained, the concentration of the hazardous substance began to decrease.
What damage did Dnipro sustain?
In addition to the damage to the facility, the Russian attack caused other damage as well.
According to local authorities:
- a fire broke out on the grounds of a private residence;
- several high-rise buildings were damaged by the blast wave;
- cars were damaged;
- a store was damaged.

Massive Drone Attack on Ukraine
On the night of July 27, Russia deployed 147 drones of various types, including Shahed strike drones, jet-powered UAVs, “Gerbera” and “Italmas” drones, and decoy drones.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force Command, Ukrainian air defenses shot down 123 enemy drones.
At the same time, 21 strike drones were recorded as having struck ten locations, and debris from downed drones was found at seven additional sites.
