Trains to the Carpathians and the South: Ukrzaliznytsia Updates Its Routes
29 May 13:55
Ukrzaliznytsia JSC is adjusting the schedules for some of its trains at the start of the summer season. Due to changes in passenger traffic, the carrier is reallocating its rolling stock: reducing the number of cars on less popular routes and redirecting them to routes with the highest demand.
This was reported by the Ukrzaliznytsia press service, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
The company explains that this approach will allow it to increase the capacity of the most popular trains, schedule additional trips, and provide more seats for passengers during the summer travel season.
Ukrzaliznytsia is switching 7 train pairs to daily service
In the near future, Ukrzaliznytsia will switch seven train pairs to daily service.
These are the following routes:
- No. 4/3 Uzhhorod — Dnipro;
- No. 86/85 Lviv — Zaporizhzhia;
- No. 128/127 Lviv — Kryvyi Rih, Zaporizhzhia;
- No. 78/77 Kovel — Odesa;
- No. 88/87 Kovel — Dnipro;
- No. 7/8 Kharkiv — Odesa;
- No. 121/122 Mykolaiv — Kyiv.
The company notes that these routes are in high demand, so the additional service should help passengers plan their trips more easily and purchase tickets.
Why Ukrzaliznytsia is changing the distribution of railcars
At the start of summer, passenger traffic traditionally shifts. Demand grows for trips to resort towns, western and southern cities, and major transit hubs.
At the same time, Ukrzaliznytsia operates under conditions of a rolling stock shortage. Therefore, the company cannot simply add new cars to all routes without limit. Instead, the carrier is reallocating its existing fleet: removing some cars from less popular routes and transferring them to where demand is highest.
This approach should allow for more efficient use of available resources and increase the number of seats specifically on the most in-demand routes.
