Traffic restrictions at the border crossing with Romania have been extended: what drivers need to know

16 April 00:55

Temporary traffic restrictions at the Solotvyno–Sighetu Marmatiei border crossing on the Ukrainian-Romanian border have been extended for another month. The reason is reconstruction work on the bridge over the Tisa River. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine announced the changes to the operating schedule, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

These are temporary restrictions for vehicles, which will be in effect on weekdays. At the same time, crossing the border through this checkpoint will remain available to pedestrians without any changes.

Why the restrictions at the Solotvyno–Sighetu Marmatiei border crossing were extended

As noted by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the Romanian side has informed them of the continuation of reconstruction work on the bridge across the Tisa River. For this reason, temporary traffic restrictions will remain in effect at the Solotvyno–Sighetu Marmatiei border crossing starting April 15, 2026.

These changes apply specifically to vehicles, as vehicle processing will be suspended during certain hours.

How the border crossing with Romania will operate

According to a statement from border guards, on weekdays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, vehicle processing at the Solotvyno–Sighetu Marmatiei border crossing point will be temporarily suspended.

This means that drivers planning to cross the border at this section should take into account the new checkpoint schedule and possible delays in advance.

At the same time, pedestrian traffic will continue without any restrictions, which is important for citizens crossing the border on foot.

Until what date will the restrictions be in effect

Preliminary temporary traffic restrictions at the Solotvyno–Sighetu Marmatiei border crossing point will remain in effect through May 15, 2026.

Therefore, until mid-May, drivers should carefully plan their route and travel time if they intend to cross the Ukrainian-Romanian border via this checkpoint.

What drivers should keep in mind

Due to the ongoing reconstruction of the bridge over the Tisa River, traffic disruptions are possible. Therefore, drivers should:

  • monitor the current operating schedule of the border crossing;
  • plan their trip outside of the hours when processing is temporarily suspended;
  • take into account possible traffic congestion before the border crossing point.

As noted by the State Border Guard Service, no additional restrictions are currently in place for pedestrians.
