Russia continues its attacks on civilian shipping
In recent days, Russia has significantly stepped up its attacks on civilian vessels calling at Ukrainian ports or operating within the maritime corridor.
Just yesterday, July 13, a Russian strike drone attacked a merchant ship flying the Togolese flag that was unloading mineral fertilizers at the time. As a result of the attack:
- three crew members were killed;
- five sailors were injured;
- the vessel sustained significant damage.
Ukrainian authorities emphasize that systematic strikes against civilian merchant ships pose a serious threat to international shipping and global food security.
Russian attacks are directed against vessels operating within the Ukrainian maritime corridor and ensuring the export of Ukrainian products to countries around the world.
Earlier, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) also condemned a series of attacks on civilian merchant ships in the Black and Azov Seas, calling on the parties to the conflict to refrain from attacks on international shipping.
