Moldovan President Maia Sandu has arrived in Kyiv on the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and plans to visit the exclusion zone. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing her post on the social media platform X.
During her visit, Sandu will also hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“Forty years after Chernobyl, I am in Kyiv for talks with Zelenskyy and am heading to Chernobyl to honor the memory of those who sacrificed their health and lives for Europe,” she said.
The President of Moldova emphasized that the consequences of such disasters know no borders.
“Disasters know no borders—just as solidarity does. Moldova supports those who build, not those who destroy,” she added.
It should be noted that on the anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda called for increased international pressure on Russia and the imposition of sanctions against Rosatom. According to him, Russia uses nuclear energy as a tool of influence, creating security risks.
He emphasized that the world must act decisively to prevent the recurrence of such disasters.
