In Kyiv, a Mercedes crashed into an underpass: 4 dead, including a 12-year-old boy

One of the most tragic traffic accidents in recent memory occurred in Kyiv on the evening of June 5. On Chokolivsky Boulevard in the Solomyanskyi district, a Mercedes-Benz traveling at high speed veered off the road and crashed into a pedestrian underpass. Four people were killed in the accident, and three others were injured. This was reported by the Kyiv police, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
According to law enforcement, the accident occurred at the intersection of Vadym Hetman and Ushynsky Streets, near Karavaevy Dachi. Preliminary findings indicate that the Mercedes driver was traveling at high speed, lost control of the vehicle, and drove into the pedestrian zone near the underpass.
What is known about the victims and those injured
Two men, a woman, and a 12-year-old boy were killed at the scene of the accident. Three other people sustained injuries.
According to updated information from the National Police, among the deceased are two officers from the Solomyanskyi Police Department in Kyiv who were on duty at the time.
Rescuers had to extricate the driver using power tools, after which he was handed over to medical personnel. An investigative team, patrol officers, rescuers, and medical personnel were working at the scene.

What is known about the Mercedes driver
According to the prosecutor’s office, the driver was a 49-year-old resident of the Kherson region. The investigation has preliminarily established that he lost control of the vehicle at high speed and crashed into an underpass where people were present at the time.
It is also known that the driver has been repeatedly charged with administrative offenses for speeding. In addition, he has been involved in four traffic accidents, two of which occurred this year.
What proceedings have been initiated
A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the fatal accident in Kyiv under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—violation of traffic safety rules resulting in the death of several people.
The exact causes of the accident, the vehicle’s speed, and other details of the tragedy are to be determined by investigators.
