In Charlotte, North Carolina, 22-year-old Iryna Zarutska, a refugee from Ukraine who came to the United States to escape the war, tragically died at a light rail station on August 22. This was reported by the Daily Mail, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to police, the girl was fatally stabbed. The suspect in the attack, 34-year-old Decarlos Brown, was detained shortly after the arrival of law enforcement officers. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Brown was charged with first-degree murder.

Police report that the man has a lengthy criminal history: since 2011, he has been arrested for serious crimes such as theft, robbery with a weapon, and threats. He is currently homeless.

The motives for the attack have not yet been disclosed. Irina’s relatives say that she had recently arrived in the United States, hoping for a new life.

This is not the first tragic incident involving Ukrainian refugees. Earlier this year, a German court sentenced a man guilty of the murder of 9-year-old Valeria, also a refugee from Ukraine, to life in prison.
