Boeing shares fell 4.1% after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that China had agreed to purchase only 200 aircraft from the American manufacturer. This is significantly less than expected, as an order for 500 aircraft had been discussed prior to the meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. This was reported by Reuters , according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

Donald Trump announced a deal with China to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft.

According to Reuters, more was expected:

“The negotiations involved 500 Boeing 737 Max aircraft, as well as wide-body aircraft.”

China is also negotiating with European manufacturer Airbus on a deal of similar size, which is causing concern at Boeing. While Boeing shares are falling, Airbus shares rose 2.3%.

The History of U.S.-China Relations

Boeing’s last major order from China came during Trump’s visit to Beijing in November 2017. At that time, China agreed to purchase 300 Boeing aircraft. Relations between the two countries subsequently deteriorated, but in August 2025, it was reported that Boeing was negotiating the sale of 500 aircraft to China.

According to the publication, based on market forecasts from Boeing and Airbus, China will need at least 9,000 new airliners by 2045. This creates significant opportunities for both aircraft manufacturers in the future, but also intensifies competition between them.
