“There are no language scandals on the front lines”: Buzhansky called the language issue a tool for manipulation

In an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian", MP Maksym Buzhansky stated that language disputes in Ukraine are artificial in nature and are being exploited by certain individuals to gain political capital at home, while this issue does not exist at all on the front lines.
According to the lawmaker, his legislative initiatives, which have repeatedly sparked significant public debate, do not actually concern restrictions on the Ukrainian language. Buzhansky emphasized that his goal is to ensure equal conditions for all citizens and to reduce state interference in private life and business.
“I have never proposed any language laws. All my other initiatives concern not languages, but citizens, their rights, and common sense,” the deputy emphasized.
In particular, Buzhansky clarified his position on education reform. He noted that he had proposed setting uniform deadlines for the transition to the state language of instruction to avoid discrimination.
“I said that there cannot be different conditions for Ukrainian citizens. I proposed that all schools, without exception, switch to the state language of instruction starting September 1, 2023—that is, simultaneously,” he recalls.

Separately, the MP commented on the issue of language fines for entrepreneurs. The deputy advocates for their abolition, appealing to the principles of a free market economy.
“Business has only one obligation—to pay taxes in good faith. The market itself will determine which language your business should use to be successful,” Buzhansky noted.
In conclusion, the politician added that he considers the language issue an artificial “stumbling block.”
“More than four years of war, and there hasn’t been a single language scandal on the front lines. It’s a tool created for political gain behind the lines. War doesn’t ask what language you speak; it says: here is the enemy, and here is your homeland—defend it,” Buzhansky concluded.
