The turning point for the Russian economy came as early as late 2024. It was then that half of Russia’s oil and gas companies began operating at a loss.
Economist Andrey Novak spoke about this in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".
“The oil and gas industry is Russia’s leading and key sector, and if half of the companies in such an industry have already become unprofitable, this is precisely the turning point when the Russian economy shifted from positive to negative territory,” Novak explained.

The expert also noted that Russia is running out of time. He added that international sanctions packages currently play a secondary role.
According to Novak, the main instrument of pressure remains Ukraine’s daily strikes on Russia’s infrastructure and military-industrial complex.
“It will withstand about two more months of Ukrainian sanctions packages. Maybe that’s the best-case scenario, or perhaps it will be much sooner,” the economist said.
