Ukraine plans to restore all power facilities where possible by winter. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a speech at the Recovery Conference in Berlin, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

The President of Ukraine appealed to partner countries to help Ukraine restore the power plants damaged by Russian missile attacks. The Ukrainian leader urged to do everything possible and impossible to preserve the existing generation and restore the lost generation to the maximum extent possible.

“In the shorter term, we must also implement a quick and inexpensive restoration of all power facilities that can be restored by winter. This is so important – before winter, over the next three to four months. We know how to ensure this,” Zelenskyy said.

According to the President of Ukraine, all that is required from partners is equipment from the shutdown power plants and financial support.

What is the current situation with the energy sector in Ukraine?

During his speech at the Recovery Conference, Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave specific figures on the energy situation in our country.

In particular, he noted that in winter, people and industrial facilities need 18 gigawatts of electricity. However, due to missiles and drones destroying the energy infrastructure, Ukraine already lacks half of its capacity – 9 gigawatts.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that 80% of Ukraine’s thermal generation and a third of its hydro generation had been destroyed by Russia’s terrorist strikes. Moreover, the Russian Armed Forces have not stopped their attacks to this day.

“What is 9 gigawatts? Berlin has about 2 gigawatts of demand. Munich is about 3 gigawatts. We have already lost many times more generation than the energy consumption of large cities,” the Ukrainian leader summed up his speech.
