An enemy strike claimed the lives of two workers: Ukraine’s largest steel mill has partially suspended operations

The mining and metallurgical enterprise “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih” came under a Russian missile attack on the night of August 16. There are fatalities and injuries, and the plant has partially suspended operations. This was reported by [Kommersant], citing the company’s press service.
“PJSC ‘ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih’ reports that last night our facility was struck by a missile launched by the aggressor country.
As a result of the enemy attack, 13 employees of the company and its contractors were injured. Unfortunately, one person was killed. Rescue and search operations are ongoing,” the statement reads.
Later, the company announced that the body of another worker had been found under the rubble.
An emergency response plan has been activated. Firefighters, occupational safety officials, rescue workers, and medical personnel are on the scene. Those injured in the enemy missile strike are receiving all necessary medical care at the city’s medical facilities.
As a result of the attack, key production facilities for power generation and blast furnace operations were damaged, and the plant’s production processes have been partially halted. Specialists are currently assessing the extent of the damage, as well as the feasibility and timeline for restoration.
“We emphasize that our enterprise is a civilian facility in the mining and metallurgical industry, and we strongly condemn such insidious enemy attacks,” the company stated.
As a reminder, in 2022, this company had already suffered a devastating missile strike. At that time, the section rolling mill was destroyed and an employee was killed.
