1 June 17:55
On June 1, the Lourdes Fireworks Factory in the town of Salina, Malta, exploded. The incident came as a surprise to residents and caused significant damage to nearby properties.
This was reported by the Times of Malta, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
The explosion resulted in injuries to two people.
It is known that the victims were two men, aged 47 and 67, who were nearby at the time of the explosion. They were working in fields near the factory and suffered shock and minor injuries.
“At the time of the explosion, they were working in fields located next to the plant,” the reports stated.
Infrastructure damage
The explosion caused significant damage. Windows were blown out in some nearby houses, and rocks scattered onto the roads. There were also reports of minor injuries to a delivery driver who was delivering food when the rocks began to fall.
After the incident, local police assured that all factory workers were safe. Residents of the area were evacuated because small explosions continued to be heard several hours after the initial blasts. This was a necessary measure to ensure the safety of residents.
Impact on Livestock
There are concerns that the explosion may also have resulted in the death of farm animals kept on neighboring farms.
“Over the past few hours, MaYA has been in contact with farmers and breeding facilities in the surrounding area, who have reported significant damage to their farms,” the MaYA Foundation stated.
However, farmers are not yet allowed to check on their animals until the area is deemed safe.
The MaYA Foundation, which works with farmers, has appealed to the authorities to provide assistance to affected farming families and assess the damage. They emphasized the need to provide necessary aid and support once the area is deemed safe.
