The prestigious Women’s Tennis Association (WTA 1000) clay-court tournament, the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, with a prize fund of over €8.235 million, concluded in Rome, Italy, with a victory by Ukrainian Elina Svitolina , according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
In the final, Ukraine’s top-ranked player Elina Svitolina (No. 10 in the WTA rankings) defeated American Cori Gauff (No. 4 in the WTA rankings) in nearly three hours with a score of 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2.
The 22-year-old Hoff was unable to hold back her tears during the match. Broadcast cameras captured the American breaking down in tears and then, in despair, hitting herself on the head with her racket several times.
The winner of this match will receive over €1 million in prize money and 1,000 ranking points.
It should be noted that Elina competed in Rome for the twelfth time. The Ukrainian won the title three times in 2017 and 2018. Last season in Rome, she reached the quarterfinals.
We should add that Svitolina has won her 20th WTA title.
