The EU introduces new entry rules: how to cross the border now
24 September 2024 15:57
On 10 November, the European Union will launch a new IT system, the Entry-Exit System (EES), which will change the procedure for Ukrainians to enter the EU. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Cabinet of Ministers.
The new system will automatically record the entry and exit of all non-EU citizens, including Ukrainians, to the Schengen area.

The aim of the EES is to facilitate the border crossing process, increase security through the use of biometric documents, and prevent the use of fake documents. It should also help fight illegal migration.

It is worth noting that the visa-free regime is not being cancelled, and no additional fees are being introduced. Only the methods of document verification will change. Passport stamps will be replaced by face and fingerprint scanning.
How the border crossing will work now: new EU rules
The EES will capture the fingerprints and face photos of people crossing the border once, storing this data for three years. After the system is implemented, passport stamps will no longer be needed.
The registration procedure will be carried out automatically through self-service terminals.

Each time you cross the border, you will need to scan your passport through these terminals.
In case of refusal to provide biometric data, border crossing will be impossible.
