YouTube is nearly doubling the price of Premium for Ukrainians

YouTube has begun notifying Ukrainian users about an increase in the cost of Premium subscriptions. The changes will apply to all subscription plans, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
YouTube Premium users in Ukraine have started receiving notifications about the change in subscription prices. The price increase will apply to all main subscription categories—individual, family, and student.
What will the new price for YouTube Premium be?
- A monthly subscription under the “Individual” plan will cost 179 UAH/month (previously 99 UAH)
- For families—299 UAH/month for 5 people (previously 149 UAH)
- For students—a 1-month free trial, followed by 109.00 UAH/month (previously 59 UAH)
YouTube Premium lets you watch videos in the YouTube app without ads, in the background, and offline. A YouTube Premium subscription also includes YouTube Music Premium.
The change in pricing policy may be due to the global rollout of the new Premium Lite plan, which is intended to be a more affordable alternative to the standard subscription. Users are expected to be able to choose between the full-featured Premium plan and the budget-friendly Lite plan immediately after the official launch of the new plan in Ukraine.
What We Know About Premium Lite
YouTube announced the new plan on August 10. It is scheduled to launch in all countries where standard YouTube Premium is available. Ukraine is also expected to be included in the list of these markets.
However, the lower-priced subscription will come with a number of limitations.
Specifically, Premium Lite will not include access to YouTube Music or the ability to download videos for offline viewing.
The main difference between Premium Lite and standard Premium is that ads will not be completely blocked. In regular videos, ads will disappear, but ad breaks may still appear while watching Shorts, listening to music, and in search results.
Thus, YouTube is effectively offering users a choice: pay more for the full range of Premium features or opt for a cheaper plan with partial ad blocking.
So far, the company has not announced the final launch date for Premium Lite in Ukraine or its exact price. It is expected to cost up to 100 UAH per month. For comparison, the plan costs $7.99 per month in the U.S.
