Igor Fomin, the lawyer for Andriy Yermak, the former head of the Office of the President, stated that he personally paid for a private cell for his client at the detention center. At the same time, the lawyer was unable to confirm exactly where Yermak is currently being held—in a cell or in another part of the detention center. Fomin made these remarks on the “Suspilne News” program, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

What Yermak’s lawyer said

Igor Fomin stated that he has no precise information about Andriy Yermak’s whereabouts following the imposition of a preventive measure. According to the lawyer, the defense paid for a private cell for him in the detention center, but he cannot confirm whether Yermak is actually there.

Fomin called the situation abnormal, since, in his words, “no one knows” exactly where his client is.

At the same time, the lawyer clarified that he personally paid for the cell.

Yermak is being held in custody with bail set at 140 million hryvnias

The day before, the High Anti-Corruption Court imposed a preventive measure of detention on Andriy Yermak . The court set bail at 140 million hryvnias as an alternative. Yermak is suspected in a case involving the alleged laundering of 460 million hryvnias during the construction of luxury real estate near Kyiv.

Yermak’s defense team previously stated that it considers the allegations unfounded. Attorney Ihor Fomin argued that, in his opinion, the case file lacks sufficient evidence and expert analyses.

After the ruling was handed down, the former head of the Presidential Office explained that he did not have the money to post bail. However, he said he has many friends and acquaintances and hopes they will be able to help him.

The prosecution requested bail of 180 million hryvnias. Yermak himself then replied that he did not have the 180 million hryvnias that the SAPO was demanding as bail for his detention.

How much money has already been raised for bail

After the court’s decision, people began contributing to Yermak’s bail. According to “Schemes,” over 14.5 million hryvnias of the required 140 million hryvnias have already been deposited into the account . The largest contribution was made by Roza Tapanova, director of the Babyn Yar National Historical and Memorial Reserve— 8 million hryvnias.

It was also reported that several people made contributions for Yermak. The amounts ranged from a few hundred hryvnias to millions.

What does a paid cell in a pretrial detention center mean?

A paid cell in a pretrial detention center is an official service that provides improved living conditions. Such cells typically feature better amenities, a separate sleeping area, a bathroom, or other conveniences compared to standard cells.

However, staying in a paid cell does not change a person’s procedural status. The individual remains in custody until bail is posted or the preventive measure is changed.
