Ayatollah Khamenei threatens “irreparable consequences” in case of US military intervention

18 June 2025 17:19

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said that any military intervention by the United States in the conflict between Israel and Iran will have “serious and irreparable consequences.” This was reported by Radio Liberty, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

“Wise people who know Iran, the Iranian nation and its history will never speak to this nation in a threatening manner, because the Iranian nation will not give up,” Khamenei said in his address.

According to him, the Americans must understand that any military escalation on their part will lead to significant damage.

The statement was made against the backdrop of the escalating situation in the Middle East and discussions about possible US involvement in the conflict.

On June 17, US President Donald Trump said that Washington knows where Khamenei is and called him an “easy target.” At the same time, he emphasized that there are no plans to assassinate the Iranian leader. Trump also added that “patience is running out” and that Iran should not attack civilians or the U.S. military.

In addition, in his address, Trump posted a message with the phrases “Silent surrender” and “We now have full control of the skies over Iran” without providing further explanation of the meaning of these words.

Ali Khamenei, who has led Iran since 1989 and has a decisive influence on all state processes, has refrained from active public comment since the start of Israeli strikes on Iran on June 13.

Israel launched air strikes against Iran as part of Operation Rising Lion on June 13-14, 2025, attacking nuclear, military, and energy facilities, including a centrifuge plant and universities affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

In response, Iran fired more than 400 ballistic missiles and dozens of drones at Israel, destroying residential areas and causing serious civilian casualties. According to Reuters, Iran fired about 400 missiles, and 24 civilians were confirmed dead.

Status of the United States
President Trump threatens Iran: calls for “unconditional surrender”.

The US military aviation contingent is being reinforced: additional aircraft and an aircraft carrier are in the region.

Russia warns the U.S.: Russian Deputy Foreign Minister warns that direct U.S. involvement in strikes against Iran could provoke “radical destabilization” of the Middle East.

Iran Targets the United States: Deputy UN Envoy says Iran will retaliate if the US intervenes directly.

Possible consequences
Escalation to a large-scale war: Iran does not rule out an “all-out” war if the fire goes to US military targets.

International anxiety: G7 countries call for de-escalation, Germany calls for diplomacy.

Polarization in the United States: Trump’s actions spark debate in Congress, mixed reactions from Republicans .

The military conflict between Israel and Iran continues, amid exchanges of air strikes, missiles, and drones. The United States is in a mode of active engagement, closing the door on diplomacy and laying the groundwork for deeper involvement. The collapse of diplomacy or a new outbreak of regional war is no longer a question of “if” but “when.”
