Buzhansky criticized the government’s humanitarian policy: “It is virtually nonexistent”

MP Maksym Buzhansky stated that the current government lacks a clear humanitarian policy, and its actions in this area are chaotic and ad hoc. In his view, this is precisely what is causing a decline in voter confidence. He made these remarks in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".

“That is my view. Anyone can describe the humanitarian policy of the previous government—you may agree with it or not, but it was clear. However, no one, not even I, can articulate what the current government’s humanitarian policy is. It effectively does not exist; these are ad hoc decisions,” he said.

According to the lawmaker, the state must have a clear and understandable humanitarian strategy that aligns with the interests of society and the Constitution. Instead, he believes that current decisions are often contradictory and lack consistency.

As an example, Buzhansky cited the regulation restricting the translation of foreign books into Russian in Ukraine.

“A law was passed that banned the translation and publication of foreign bestsellers in Russian in Ukraine. This does not protect the Ukrainian language; it is killing the Ukrainian book market because stores have lost a significant portion of their customers. Who have we punished? Ourselves?” he noted.

The MP also emphasized that such decisions may violate citizens’ fundamental rights, particularly the right to access information, and indicate a lack of a well-thought-out policy in the humanitarian sphere.

“The state must act systematically. Humanitarian policy must serve the interests of citizens, the Constitution, and the course toward the EU. And when this is lacking, it undermines trust in the government,” Buzhansky concluded.
