Due to rising fuel prices: airlines are canceling flights
19 April 14:15
Airline passengers should expect an increase in flight cancellations due to rising jet fuel prices amid the war in Iran.
This was reported by the Bloomberg news agency, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to data from the analytics firm Cirium Ltd., global airline capacity will decline by approximately 3% in May alone, instead of the expected 4-6% growth in 2026.
Major airlines are warning of flight cancellations due to fuel shortages
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) states that aviation fuel reserves in Europe will last for about six weeks. The aviation fuel shortage is caused by the U.S. and Israel’s war against Iran and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which has cut off Iranian oil supplies.
To conserve fuel, major airlines are cutting back on their schedules. For example, the Dutch airline KLM announced the cancellation of 80 round-trip flights in May from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. This puts it in the same category as the American airline United Airlines and the German airline Lufthansa, which have also cut routes for profitability reasons, notes Bloomberg.
