Demchenko explained the reasons for the lines at border crossings

An increase in passenger traffic and queues at the Ukrainian-Polish border have been reported, particularly for those leaving Ukraine. The heaviest traffic is being observed at the “Shehyni–Medyka” border crossing, as well as at “Krakovets” and “Ustyluh.”

Andriy Demchenko, a spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, reported this in a comment to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to him, since the beginning of June, the number of border crossings has increased significantly due to the start of the summer season, the end of the school year, and the beginning of the vacation period.

“Passenger traffic began to increase on June 1. While on weekdays in the spring there were about 85,000 border crossings per day, by early June the figure rose to 95,000, and on weekends reached 115,000 crossings per day,” Demchenko noted.

According to the State Border Guard Service, about half of all passenger traffic occurs at the border with Poland, where queues are forming due to the increase in the number of travelers.

“Right now, there is a higher volume of people leaving Ukraine. This is the same situation as last year and the year before. The start of the tourist season and the vacation period traditionally increase the number of people wanting to travel abroad,” the spokesperson explained.

He added that as of this morning, there were no lines at the border crossings, but they began to form closer to noon. First at the Shehyni checkpoint, and later also at the Krakivets and Ustyluh checkpoints.

The State Border Guard Service advises travelers to check information on checkpoint congestion in advance.

“Our Western Regional Directorate updates information on queues every three hours. This allows people to choose a less congested route for crossing the border,” Demchenko said.

According to border guards’ forecasts, departures from Ukraine will predominate in June, traffic will even out in July, and in August, the number of people entering the country will exceed the number of those leaving.

As a reminder, in May, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine lifted restrictions on traveling abroad for all women without exception. From now on, the right to cross the state border does not depend on whether a woman holds a position in state authorities, local self-government bodies, state-owned enterprises, or courts.
