Trump’s tariffs will be 10-15% for 150 countries

US President Donald Trump has said he plans to send letters to more than 150 countries notifying them of tariffs of 10% or 15%. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Bloomberg.

“We will send over 150 countries a notice of payment, and this notice will indicate what the tariff level will be,”

– trump told reporters on Wednesday.

The US President emphasized that the tariffs will be the same for all countries in this group. According to him, the trading partners who will receive such letters are

“are not big countries, and they don’t do significant business with us.”

In an interview with Real America’s Voice, Trump clarified that the tariff rate

“will probably be 10 or 15%, we haven’t decided yet.”

In recent days, the US president has stepped up his tariff policy, notifying other economies of new duties that will take effect on August 1 if they fail to negotiate better terms with the US. The letters extended the original July 9 deadline by another three weeks, triggering frantic attempts by trading partners to avoid the higher fees.

“For much of the world – and especially for Asia, which faces some of the highest levies – the tariff rate announcement may be seen as a positive, providing some certainty for smaller countries with a lower rate than originally threatened,”

– commented Alicia Garcia Herrero, Chief Economist for Asia Pacific at Natixis.

The expert also noted that such a bet signals that

“Trump realizes that tariffs that are too high are destructive.”

While Trump and his advisors initially expressed hopes for multiple deals, the president is now touting the tariff sheets themselves as “deals” and making it clear that he is not interested in lengthy negotiations. At the same time, he is leaving room for countries to strike deals that could lower these rates.

The tariffs imposed so far are largely similar to those Trump threatened in April and then quickly suspended after market volatility. However, the letters have brought additional uncertainty to financial markets and surprised partners, including the European Union, which had hoped to conclude preliminary agreements with the United States.

“We could have maybe made a deal with Europe. You know, I’m pretty indifferent to that,”

– trump said in an interview with Real America’s Voice, making it clear that he views the letter sent by the EU as a deal.

When asked what he thought would happen to Canada, which will receive a 35% tariff on some goods in August, the US president said that “it’s too early to tell.”
