A powerful magnetic storm is approaching Earth: when to expect a geomagnetic storm

16 August 02:16

A powerful G2-level magnetic storm is set to hit Earth. This is according to data from the British Geological Survey, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

Preliminary estimates indicate that two coronal mass ejections from the Sun will reach Earth in the second half of August 17. That is when the geomagnetic storm will begin. It is currently unknown how long it will last.

It should be noted that a G2 magnetic storm is not extreme or destructive, but it can cause minor disruptions in power grids and make some people feel unwell.

How Magnetic Storms Can Affect People

Scientific data on the direct impact of magnetic storms on people’s well-being remains inconclusive. At the same time, many people complain of fatigue, headaches, drowsiness, irritability, or fluctuations in blood pressure during periods of geomagnetic disturbances.

Doctors usually recommend the following on such days:

  • not to overexert yourself physically;
  • drink plenty of water;
  • avoid excessive stress;
  • for people with cardiovascular diseases—to monitor their well-being more closely and follow their doctor’s recommendations.
