Interpipe will not cut back on production in Ukraine

The Ukrainian industrial company Interpipe has no plans to relocate production or reduce output of pipe products at its plants in Ukraine in favor of the recently acquired Romanian plant, Interpipe Roman.
This was announced by the company’s CEO, Luca Zanotti, in an interview with Metal Expert, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
“First and foremost, I must emphasize that following this acquisition, Interpipe has no intention of relocating production or reducing output at our plants in Ukraine in favor of the Romanian facility. Our production base in Ukraine, where, in addition to pipe rolling facilities, we have a technological complex for the production of railway products, is the foundation of our industrial strategy, and it would be extremely costly to replicate,” he said.
According to him, production at the Romanian plant has already resumed as soon as the company built up a stock of round billets in its warehouses. Currently, Interpipe is focusing on increasing the supply of semi-finished products to the Romanian plant, while the pace of rolling and finishing of finished products will depend on market demand.
Luca Zanotti also noted that Interpipe Roman is equipped with three pipe rolling mills, but only one mill has been in operation in recent years.
“Our business plan is to restore production to that level,” he stated.

Acquisition of a Plant in Romania
As for Interpipe’s acquisition of the plant in Romania, the CEO cited several reasons.
“First, the Romanian plant is a perfect fit for our steelmaking business, as Interpipe has underutilized steel production capacity in Ukraine. This capacity can be used to power the pipe rolling equipment in Romania,” he said.
The second reason, he said, is related to the destabilization of global trade, which requires greater production flexibility—that is, a presence in various geographic regions to meet customer demands.
“Obviously, this is our first step in Europe. There is currently a lot of talk about Ukraine’s membership in the European Union, and with this first step, Interpipe is already in Europe. And not least, this is a ‘backup’ option should we encounter problems in Ukraine,” emphasized Luca Zanotti.
In the first quarter of 2026, the Ukrainian industrial company Interpipe transferred approximately 1.2 billion UAH to budgets at all levels and extrabudgetary funds.
The Roman plant is a major Romanian manufacturer of seamless steel pipes with diameters ranging from 168.3 mm to 406.4 mm. The company supplies products to customers in the energy, construction, and industrial sectors; for pipelines in onshore/offshore projects; and traditionally manufactures casing pipes and pump-compressor pipes for oil and gas production.
Interpipe is a Ukrainian industrial company and manufacturer of steel pipes and railway products, supplying to more than 50 countries worldwide.
The company comprises the Interpipe Steel electric steelmaking complex, the Interpipe Nizhnedneprovsky Pipe Rolling Plant, the Interpipe Novomoskovsky Pipe Plant, Interpipe Niko-Tube, and Dnipropetrovsk Vtormet.
The company has a total workforce of approximately 9,500 employees. The ultimate owner of Interpipe Ltd is Ukrainian businessman Viktor Pinchuk and members of his family.
