“Coalition of the Willing” to Meet in Kyiv on Independence Day: Focus on Pressure on Russia and Security Guarantees
22 August 21:15
On Monday, August 24, the leaders of the “Coalition of the Willing” will hold a meeting to discuss strengthening Ukraine’s air defense and new measures to put pressure on Russia. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Le Figaro.
The meeting will be held in a hybrid format—some participants will attend in person, while others will join via video conference.
The meeting will be co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron (via videoconference), German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and British Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
In addition, about ten European officials, including European Council President António Costa, will be present in Kyiv alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Key Topics of Discussion
The key focus of the talks will be the defense of Ukraine’s airspace. Due to a shortage of interceptor missiles, Ukraine remains vulnerable to Russian air attacks, so the partners will seek ways to rapidly supply air defense systems.
In addition, meeting participants plan to develop measures to increase economic pressure on Russia and cut off funding for its military (in particular, by restricting the activities of the “shadow fleet”).
They will also discuss the provision of security guarantees designed to help achieve a lasting and just peace.
It is symbolic that the meeting will take place on the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
