Massive Strike on Kyiv: Russia Attacked with Ballistic Missiles and “Zircons”; There Are Fatalities and Dozens of Casualties

On the night of August 1, Russian forces launched yet another combined attack on Kyiv, using ballistic missiles and “Zircon”-type cruise missiles . The shelling resulted in fatalities, dozens of injuries, and widespread destruction of residential buildings and fires in several districts of the capital.

This was reported by the Kyiv City Military Administration, the Ukrainian Air Force, and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

Russia struck Kyiv with ballistic missiles and “Zircon” missiles

Around 1:30 a.m., a series of powerful explosions rocked the capital.

According to monitoring channels, Russia used several types of missiles at once, including ballistic missiles and hypersonic “Zircons, which were launched from the Bryansk, Kursk, and Voronezh regions of the Russian Federation.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that the missiles approached Kyiv from the directions of the Chernihiv and Poltava regions.

Air defense forces were active in the capital during the attack.

Consequences of the Strike on Kyiv

According to preliminary data from city authorities, several districts of the capital sustained the most damage.

Solomyanskyi District

A large-scale fire broke out in a six-story building in the Solomyanskyi District.

On the scene are:

  • State Emergency Service rescue workers;
  • medical personnel;
  • law enforcement officers;
  • emergency services.

Shevchenkivskyi District

In the Shevchenkivskyi District, a rocket struck a residential building.

Preliminary reports indicate partial destruction of the first and second floors.

People were trapped under the rubble. The rescue operation is ongoing.

There are fatalities and injuries

According to preliminary reports, as a result of the Russian strike:

  • four people were killed;
  • 15 people were injured;
  • among the victims are two boys, aged 13 and 17.

All of the injured have been hospitalized. One of the victims is in critical condition.

The number of fatalities and injured may rise, as search and rescue operations are still ongoing.

Klitschko urged people not to leave their shelters

Immediately after the attack began, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko appealed to the capital’s residents to remain in shelters until the air raid alert ended.

Eyewitnesses reported numerous fires, powerful explosions, and temporary power outages in some areas of the city.

Emergency services are assessing the full extent of the damage.
