In the Solomyanskyi district of the capital, municipal services carried out a large-scale removal of small architectural structures (SAS) located near the legendary Radio Market in Karavaevy Dachi, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to city improvement services, kiosks and stalls that lacked the necessary permits or obstructed pedestrian areas were subject to demolition.

Most of the dismantled structures were used to sell mobile accessories, small electronics, and provide gadget repair services.

The Kyiv City State Administration explains that this is being done to clear transportation hubs and approaches to the train station of unregulated street vending.

The Radio Market, officially known as the “Karavaevi Dachi” shopping center, is a cult location for several generations of Kyiv residents. The market’s history dates back to the late 1970s. At that time, it was an informal gathering of radio amateurs and engineers who met on weekends.

At first, they met in the park near the Antonov Cultural Center, and later moved closer to the “Karavaevi Dachi” train station.

In the 1980s, it was perhaps the only place in Kyiv where one could find rare radio parts, transistors, and circuit boards for repairing or assembling equipment at home.

As an organized commercial venue, the market began to take shape in the 1990s. At that time, the “iron” hobby turned into big business: radio parts were replaced by the first game consoles, cassettes, and later—cell phones and computer hardware.

At one time, Radiorynok was considered the “technological heart” of the city, but in recent years it has repeatedly come under criticism due to an overabundance of illegal structures and issues with the maintenance of the surrounding area.
