Military aid for Ukraine to be announced at the NATO summit: what the new package entails
4 July 09:15
Ukraine, which is defending itself against a full-scale invasion by Russia, will receive new, multi-billion military aid from NATO countries. This is stated in a draft declaration for the North Atlantic Alliance summit in Ankara, according to "Komersant Ukrainian", citing DW.
Representatives of the 32 NATO member states reached an agreement on this a few days before the NATO summit. As noted by the media, the draft final declaration was approved on July 3 by the ambassadors of all 32 alliance countries. The plan is to allocate at least 70 billion euros per year to Ukraine in 2026 and 2027 for military equipment, support, and military training.

The new package includes previously approved EU aid
This aid program includes the previously adopted EU military support package, under which Kyiv will receive approximately 60 billion euros for defense spending by the end of 2027. In addition, NATO countries have agreed to contribute another approximately 80 billion euros from their national budgets to this amount.
Germany will provide a significant portion of these funds, as the U.S. has significantly scaled back its financial support for Ukraine. This year, the German government has already allocated 11.5 billion euros for artillery, drones, armored vehicles, and other weapons for Ukraine. The German Ministry of Defense calls this the largest amount since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
In addition, in the draft final declaration of the NATO summit, all participants, including U.S. President Donald Trump, reaffirm their commitment to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty. “An attack on one (member) is an attack on all,” the text states.
