Weekend Weather: Rain, thunderstorms, and hail in some areas are expected across Ukraine

4 July 01:03

A significant change in weather conditions is expected in Ukraine this weekend. A cold front from Western Europe is moving into the country, bringing a drop in temperatures, rain of varying intensity, thunderstorms, and, in some areas, hail and squalls. This was reported by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

Rain and thunderstorms will affect most regions

According to forecasters, on the night of July 4, rain will fall in the northern and central regions, as well as in the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions.

During the day, precipitation is expected across almost the entire territory of Ukraine, with the exception of the southwestern regions.

In some places, the following are forecast:

  • heavy rain;
  • thunderstorms;
  • hail;
  • gusts of wind at speeds of 15–20 m/s.

The change in weather will be caused by a cold front, which will displace the hot, dry air that has been lingering over the country in recent days.

What will the temperature be?

After the atmospheric front passes, the air temperature will drop slightly.

At night, temperatures will range from:

  • 13–18°C in most regions;
  • 18–23°C in the south and east.

During the day, temperatures will range from:

  • 21–26°C in most regions;
  • 26–31°C in the southern and eastern regions.

The average daytime temperature across the country will be around 26°C.

Weather in Kyiv and the Kyiv region

Rain and thunderstorms are forecast for the capital and the Kyiv region overnight, but no significant precipitation is expected during the day.

The wind will be from the northwest at 7–12 m/s.

Air temperature:

  • in Kyiv, 14–16°C at night and 22–24°C during the day;
  • in the region: 13–18°C at night, 21–26°C during the day.

Forecast for July 5–6

According to meteorologists, brief showers and thunderstorms are expected on July 5 in the northern, eastern, and southeastern regions.

On July 6, unstable weather will persist in the western, northern, and northeastern regions. The rest of the country will see mostly dry weather with no significant precipitation.

Nighttime temperatures will range from 11–18°C, while daytime temperatures will reach 21–28°C.

Forecasters recommend that residents of regions where thunderstorms and squalls are forecast closely monitor forecast updates and exercise caution while outdoors.
