Oleshky in the Kherson region is without water and medicine: Russians are blocking people from leaving

9 May 18:12

The town of Oleshky and nearby settlements in the Russian-occupied territory of the Kherson region remain without adequate access to water, food, and medical care, and the Russians are preventing people from leaving the danger zone. This was reported by Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament’s Commissioner for Human Rights, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to him, the situation is critical in Oleshky, Hola Prystan, Stara Zburivka, and Nova Zburivka in the Kherson region. Russian occupiers are blocking people from leaving and hindering the delivery of basic goods and medicines.

In total, more than 6,000 people may require humanitarian aid, including about 200 children, Lubinets emphasized.

He also reported that he had appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross and to Tatyana Moskalkova, the Human Rights Commissioner of the Russian Federation, regarding the need to organize a safe evacuation of the civilian population. The ICRC informed the Ukrainian ombudsman of its readiness to assist in taking the necessary measures.

Ukraine has provided the Red Cross with a consolidated list of people in need of assistance, particularly evacuation, noted Dmytro Lubinets.

On May 6, the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the humanitarian situation had worsened in certain areas of the occupied territories of the Kherson region due to Russian crimes that violate international law. Critical infrastructure there has been virtually destroyed, and there is no electricity or gas supply.
