Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, 41 senior officers have been discharged from military service for health reasons. This information was provided by the Main Communications Directorate of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in response to a request from Radio Liberty, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

This data covers the period from February 24, 2022 to August 1, 2024.

“According to the information provided by the Personnel Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the following is reported: during the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into the territory of Ukraine, from 02/24/2022 to 08/01/2024, 41 senior officers were discharged from military service for health reasons,”

– the response reads.

At the same time, during this period, one senior officer was recruited for military service.

Senior officers usually include officers who hold strategic command positions or have the highest military ranks, including major generals, lieutenants general, and colonels general.

Radio Liberty’s request concerned the number of generals who were dismissed from the reserve based on the conclusions of military medical commissions during a full-scale war.

Soldiers in the rear

From the very beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, there has been talk about the number of career military personnel who are in the rear or not on military service at all. In particular, it is known that the ratio of frontline to rearline personnel in the Armed Forces is approximately 30 to 70 percent. This raises many questions for recruits who are sent to the front after a month of training while career soldiers continue to serve in their rear units.

There are also a large number of military retirees under the age of 60 who are discharged from military service at a time when civilians under the age of 60 are being mobilized. Halyna Tretiakova, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Social Policy and Veterans’ Rights, published data showing that there are 156,000 military retirees under the age of 60 who are already retired in Ukraine.

A few days ago, MP Iryna Konstankevych claimed that there were “more than 100 thousand” of them.

Also, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, there are currently about 120,000 police officers in Ukraine – people who took an oath to the people of Ukraine and are trained to handle weapons. However, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko claims that these people are not trained to be in the trenches.

According to military and public figure Yuriy Hudymenko, there are about 16,000 registered employees in the security police alone, a structure whose functions are completely copied by a number of private organizations.
