Russian marketplaces have refused to provide compensation in the event of military strikes
19 July 02:18
The Russian online marketplaces Wildberries and Ozon have amended the terms of their agreements with sellers, waiving their obligation to compensate sellers for the loss or damage of goods caused by military actions, including drone strikes, according to "Komersant Ukrainian", citing DW.
The relevant changes to the terms of service took effect on the Ozon marketplace on July 1 and on Wildberries on July 7, as the companies themselves notified their partners. However, these developments gained widespread attention after Ukrainian Armed Forces drones struck Wildberries warehouses in the Tambov region and the Moscow suburbs on July 18. Not only were people killed and injured, but approximately 10–15% of the marketplace’s warehouse space may have been damaged—according to an estimate by The Bell, citing a source familiar with the situation at the company.
Wildberries owner Tatiana Kim wrote on Telegram: “Despite the emergency situation and the fact that we are under no obligation to compensate for lost goods, we are already working on the amounts to be paid to sellers and other financial support measures.” According to her, the families of those who died will receive 2 million rubles from the company, and those seriously injured will receive 1 million rubles. Kim promised to provide more detailed information later.

Consequences of UAV Strikes on Wildberries Warehouses
Earlier reports indicated that fires broke out after Ukrainian drones struck Wildberries warehouses in Kotovsk, Tambov Oblast, and in Elektrostal, near Moscow. According to the latest data, eight people were killed and about 50 were injured.
The Bell reports that the logistics center in Elektrostal is likely Wildberries’ largest, with an area of 250,000 square meters. The warehouse in Kotovsk is also large, at 108,000 square meters. Following these incidents, “we can speak of a serious logistical strain on the company’s largest market—Moscow,” the publication notes.
Kim reported that the fire at the company’s warehouse in Kotovsk has been completely extinguished, while in Elektrostal, Emergency Ministry personnel continue to put out the remaining hot spots.
Zelenskyy: This Is a Response to Russian Attacks
The President of Ukraine called the strikes on Russian marketplace facilities a response to Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Wildberries’ warehouses stored sanctioned components for the production of drones and navigation equipment.
