On Wednesday, May 27, McDonald’s reopened its restaurant near the Lukyanivska metro station in Kyiv. The restaurant sustained significant damage during the recent massive Russian attack on the capital. This was reported by McDonald’s press office, according to
“29 years by your side. We’re moving forward,” reads a post on the restaurant’s page.
According to estimates by
The location near the metro station is a major transportation hub where debris from downed missiles and drones regularly lands, or where ballistic projectiles directly strike the surrounding infrastructure.
- The first four times: Between 2022 and 2024, the restaurant sustained minor to moderate damage on multiple occasions (primarily shattered windows, a damaged facade, and roof elements) due to attacks on the Lukyanivska metro area.
- The fifth strike (January 18, 2025): This was one of the most severe. On that occasion, Russia struck the area with ballistic missiles. The interior, the staff training center on the second floor, refrigeration equipment, and the “McDrive” terminals were seriously damaged. It took the company nearly a month to completely renovate the establishment and reopen it on February 13.
- Sixth strike (July 21, 2025): Following another nighttime airstrike, the restaurant again sustained damage to its glass facade, but quickly reopened to customers that very morning.
- Seventh strike (the night of May 24, 2026): This time, the epicenter of the explosion was too close—at the neighboring market and in the “Kvadrat” shopping center. As a result of the massive blast wave, the restaurant’s facade systems were destroyed again, and the interior ceiling finishes and kitchen equipment were damaged.
Despite the regular and massive financial losses the company suffers due to Russian aggression, the chain manages to avoid the worst—casualties among its employees.
