Prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, have shut down a group that was embezzling funds from foreign buyers under the guise of exporting agricultural products. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

Case Details

According to the investigation, a group of individuals operating in the Kyiv region created and used shell companies to enter into fictitious contracts for the export of agricultural products. The buyers were primarily foreign citizens, particularly from European Union countries.

“To potential clients, the scheme looked like a standard foreign trade deal. Information was posted online about purported agricultural companies offering products at attractive prices. Buyers were convinced that the goods were in stock, could be delivered quickly, and that the partnership was profitable and safe,” the Office of the Prosecutor General reports.

According to the investigation, one of the scheme’s organizers helped build trust among foreign clients. She spoke several foreign languages, presented herself as a sales manager, demonstrated knowledge of commercial matters, and convinced buyers of the deal’s reliability.

“After that, supply or purchase-sale contracts were concluded with the clients. The main condition was an advance payment “supposedly to initiate the shipment of agricultural products and cover transportation costs,” the statement reads.

According to the investigation, the group’s members had no intention of fulfilling these contracts. After the money was transferred to the accounts of affiliated companies, the funds were withdrawn in cash or transferred to other accounts, and contact with the buyers was severed.

The victims include foreign citizens, specifically residents of Germany, Croatia, and Israel. The amount of damages currently established exceeds 600,000 euros.
