Fares on the Kyiv Commuter Train Will Go Up: How Much Will You Have to Pay?

Ukrzaliznytsia has revised the fare for the Kyiv Circular Train: starting July 22, the ticket price will range from 30 to 37 hryvnias, depending on the payment method. This was announced by JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia,” according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Starting July 22, ticket prices will be as follows:
• 30 UAH — via the Ukrzaliznytsia and “Kyiv Digital” apps;
• 34.20 UAH — when paying via validators or Kyiv Digital self-service terminals;
• 36.70 UAH — at Ukrzaliznytsia self-service terminals;
• 37 UAH — at ticket offices or directly from the conductor on the train.
“All current discounts remain in effect. Students will continue to be able to purchase discounted tickets through the Ukrzaliznytsia app, while veterans and retirees can obtain free tickets at ticket offices,” the statement said.
The cost of a single ride on the Kyiv City Express will be aligned with public transportation fares in Kyiv, Ukrzaliznytsia explained.
“At the same time, for passengers who regularly use the city commuter train, season passes will be introduced, allowing for significant savings on daily trips. The team is currently working on implementing this decision,” the statement said.
Ukrzaliznytsia explains that maintaining and repairing trains, ensuring their operation, and paying for electricity is becoming increasingly expensive. Revenue from ticket sales is no longer sufficient to cover these costs.
“The situation is further complicated by the fact that, since 2021, the city has not compensated Ukrzaliznytsia for the costs of transporting passengers eligible for fare discounts. Since the beginning of 2026 alone, this debt has already exceeded 10 million hryvnias. That is why we are forced to revise the fare and bring it in line with public transportation fares in Kyiv,” the company explained.
Ukrzaliznytsia noted that, unlike public transit—where fares have increased nearly fourfold—the fare for the Kyiv Ring Train is rising by only twofold.

As a reminder, new fares took effect in Kyiv on July 15. The cost of a single-ride ticket on municipal transit rose to 30 hryvnias, and on minibuses—to 25 hryvnias.
- New prices: Asingle trip on public transit (subway, buses, trolleybuses, trams) costs 30 hryvnias; on minibuses, 25 hryvnias.
- How to save: Public transit offers a progressive discount system when you top up your card (25 UAH per trip when purchasing a 50-trip package).
- Discounts: All categories of passengers eligible for discounts—including veterans, people with disabilities, retirees (“Kyiv Resident Card” holders), college students, and schoolchildren—retain the right to free or discounted travel.
- Fines: Due to the fare increase, the fine for riding without a ticket has risen to 600 UAH (20 times the cost of a single trip).
- Important: Previously purchased trips at 8 UAH are valid until September 14, 2026. Starting August 1, a transfer ticket for 60 UAH (90 minutes of unlimited travel) will be introduced.
Public Transportation: Fares and Discounts
According to a decree by the Kyiv City State Administration, the base fare for the metro, buses, trams, and trolleybuses will be 30 hryvnias.
However, a progressive discount system will be in place for frequent riders, allowing them to save money. The more trips you pay for when reloading your card, the cheaper each one becomes (up to 25 UAH per trip when purchasing 50 units).
An unlimited monthly pass for all types of public transportation will cost 3,656 hryvnias.
