Rada appoints Sviridenko Prime Minister of Ukraine: what is known about her

On July 17, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the appointment of Yulia Svyrydenko as Prime Minister of Ukraine. This was reported by Oleksiy Honcharenko, a member of the European Solidarity party, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

Svyrydenko became the second woman prime minister in the history of Ukraine after Yulia Tymoshenko.

The decision was voted for by 262 MPs.

There were 22 MPs against, 26 abstained, and 22 did not vote.

The breakdown of votes is as follows:

MP Sofia Fedina has published the main points of Yulia Svyrydenko’s speech in the Verkhovna Rada during the consideration of her candidacy for the post of Prime Minister of Ukraine.

According to her, Ms. Svyrydenko emphasized that the war requires renewal of approaches and state policy. First and foremost, it is about improving the supply of the Armed Forces and stimulating arms production. She also emphasized support for domestic producers and the need to speed up privatization.

Among the initiatives announced was the introduction of a moratorium on business inspections. Svyrydenko said that every Ukrainian should feel positive changes, and Ukraine will be ready “in all winning clusters.”

MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak commented on the answers of the newly appointed Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko to his questions about economic reforms.

According to him, the Prime Minister’s position on key institutions and issues is worrisome:

“We are not going to appoint the BES. She even pretended not to hear the customs. There is a moratorium on inspections, but for some reason it is not working.”

Who is Yulia Svyrydenko?

Yulia Svyrydenko is originally from Chernihiv. She was born on December 25, 1985. In 2008, she graduated with honors from the Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics, after which she completed a number of postgraduate programs.

In the same year, she started working as an economist at the Kyiv-based real estate company AMP JSC. In 2011, she left the business sector and became the head of Chernihiv’s representative office in Wuxi, China. Her task was to attract Chinese investment. One of the results was the creation of Eco-Vtor, a company with 100% foreign capital in Chernihiv.

Svyrydenko has been in public service since 2015. She was an advisor to the head of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration, headed the Department of Economic Development, and later became the first deputy head of the RSA. During her tenure, the region received more than $340 million in foreign direct investment, the highest figure among Ukrainian regions at the time.

In 2019, she moved to the Ministry of Economy, where she worked as a deputy minister and later as a first deputy. In 2020, Svyrydenko became deputy head of the Presidential Office, overseeing economic issues and investor relations. She also chairs the Business Promotion Council.

on November 4, 2021, she was appointed First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine. Svyrydenko participated in the work of the Trilateral Contact Group on Donbas and was a member of the Supervisory Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine.
