5 May 11:17

Three employees of the Naftogaz Group and two State Emergency Service rescuers were killed in yet another massive Russian attack on the night of May 5; another 37 were wounded, and facilities sustained significant damage, according to Serhiy Koretskyi, chairman of the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

“The Russians launched a massive attack on Naftogaz Group facilities. Gas production facilities in the Poltava and Kharkiv regions came under fire. We have suffered significant destruction and production losses. The most painful thing is the loss of our colleagues,” Koretsky wrote on Facebook.

He noted that it was a combined attack involving UAVs and ballistic weapons, which resulted in the deaths of three Naftogaz Group employees and two State Emergency Service rescuers, with another 37 people injured.

“My sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of those who died. The injured are receiving all necessary medical care,” assured the head of Naftogaz.

According to him, as soon as the security situation allows, the company will begin assessing the consequences and initiating recovery efforts.

The names of the rescuers who died were later released:

Viktor Kuzmenko – Deputy Head of the Poltava Regional State Emergency Service’s Operational Coordination Center, Hero of Ukraine. Following the attack on Poltava in 2024, 17 people were rescued under his leadership. He participated in over 50 operations to address the consequences of shelling.

Dmytro Skryl —firefighter and rescuer, with over 20 years of service. He repeatedly extinguished complex fires at oil and gas industry facilities following enemy strikes.

Features of the Russian attack

During a telethon,Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ignat answered journalists’ questions about whether the increased frequency of attacks, including during the day, indicates a change in Russian tactics.

“On multiple occasions, the enemy has continued attacks around the clock. This happened a month ago, a week ago, and a few days ago. In other words, the enemy has certain capabilities, such as those same decoy drones. This is to keep putting pressure on Ukraine, to complicate our air defense, and, of course, to deplete our air defense resources, both ground-based and airborne platforms,” he stated.

As reported, since the beginning of the year, Russia has attacked Naftogaz facilities approximately 100 times.
